I saw this lovely lady on CNN. Her name is Amanda Baggs and she has been rated as severely autistic.
She made this film all by herself and she then submitted it to YouTube. She types extremely fast (without mistakes) which in then turns her words into a voice simulater, which makes it possible for us to understand her. She is an amazing woman and very intellegent.
The autistic mind is such an unknown world to many of us, but with Amanda, taking the time to make her film, she has been able to give all of us a small glimpse of her and what goes on deep inside the autistic mind.Main Entry: au·tism
Function: noun
Date: 1948
: a variable developmental disorder that appears by age three and is characterized by impairment of the ability to form normal social relationships, by impairment of the ability to communicate with others, and by stereotyped behavior patterns.
(Merriam-Webster Dictionary)
Autism is still incompletely understood. Abnormalities of the brain (particularly in the cerebellum, brain stem, and limbic system) are likely to have occurred during early development. Genetic or environmental influences, a deficiency of large neurons called Purkinje cells in the cerebellum, or an excess of the neurotransmitter serotonin may also cause autism. There is no cure for autism; behavioral or drug therapy may improve some symptoms. People with the condition have a normal life expectancy.

IN MY LANGUAGE .....by Amanda Baggs
The first part is in my "native language," and then the second part provides a translation, or at least an explanation.
This is not a look-at-the-autie gawking freakshow as much as it is a statement about what gets considered thought, intelligence, personhood, language, and communication, and what does not.Until we meet again.....Greetings and Salutations from Planet Norwood......Lj
