FLOWERS ARE A MIRACLE

SUNFLOWER.....

I BELIEVE FLOWERS TO BE A MIRACLE

I BELIEVE FLOWERS TO BE A MIRACLE
FROM THEIR SEPAL DOWN THROUGH THEIR STEM
WITH THEIR MANY PETALS BRIGHTLY COLORED
YELLOW DUSTY POLLEN DEEP WITHIN.

THEIR DELICATE BEAUTY OUR EYES TO GAZE
GOD PRESENTS THESE GIFTS FOR ALL
I BELIEVE FLOWERS TO BE A MIRACLE
FROM THE LARGE DOWN TO THE SMALL.

Four parts of a flower -> arranged in rings inside each other.

Sepal - Protected the flower when it was in bud. The sepal is often green.

Stamen - The male part of the plant which produces the pollen (yellow, dust like). (anthers -> tops of stamen, filaments -> bottom part)

Petals - Brightly coloured in insect pollinated plants. Small (or non-existent) in wind pollinated plants.

Carpel -The female part of the plant which produce fruit once pollination has taken place. The fruit contains seeds. (Carpels. stigma -> top where it gets pollen, style -> pollen travels down, ovary -> where fruit is formed)

Miracles

Why! who makes much of a miracle?
As to me, I know of nothing else but miracles,
Whether I walk the streets of Manhattan,
Or dart my sight over the roofs of houses toward the sky,
Or wade with naked feet along the beach, just in the edge of the
water,
Or stand under trees in the woods,
Or talk by day with any one I love--or sleep in the bed at night with
any one I love,
Or sit at table at dinner with my mother,
Or look at strangers opposite me riding in the car,
Or watch honey-bees busy around the hive, of a summer forenoon,
Or animals feeding in the fields,
Or birds--or the wonderfulness of insects in the air,
Or the wonderfulness of the sun-down--or of stars shining so quiet
and bright,
Or the exquisite, delicate, thin curve of the new moon in spring;
Or whether I go among those I like best, and that like me best--
mechanics, boatmen, farmers,
Or among the savans--or to the soiree--or to the opera,
Or stand a long while looking at the movements of machinery,
Or behold children at their sports,
Or the admirable sight of the perfect old man, or the perfect old
woman,
Or the sick in hospitals, or the dead carried to burial,
Or my own eyes and figure in the glass;
These, with the rest, one and all, are to me miracles,
The whole referring--yet each distinct, and in its place.

To me, every hour of the light and dark is a miracle,
Every cubic inch of space is a miracle,
Every square yard of the surface of the earth is spread with the
same,
Every foot of the interior swarms with the same;
Every spear of grass--the frames, limbs, organs, of men and women,
and all that concerns them,
All these to me are unspeakably perfect miracles.

To me the sea is a continual miracle;
The fishes that swim--the rocks--the motion of the waves--the ships,
with men in them,
What stranger miracles are there?

POETRY IS A MIRACLE IN ITSELF, SHOWING ALL OF US JUST WHAT A MIRACLE THE HUMAN BRAIN IS, AS WELL. THANKS TO PEOPLE LIKE WALT WHITMAN.....WE ALL HAVE THE PLEASURE OF READING HIS WORDS, PLACED TOGETHER IN A MELODIC RHYTHM, WITH MEANING AND RHYME.

IT'S A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD......

TODAY WAS A SPECIAL DAY HERE ON PLANET NORWOOD.

OUR NEIGHBOR LADY FROM ACROSS THE WAY WALKED OVER AND HANDED ME A BOWL OF FRESH GROWN PEACHES THAT SHE HAD GOTTEN FROM A FARMER'S CO-OP SEVERAL MILES AWAY.

TJ AND I JUST HAPPENED TO BE OUTSIDE AT THE TIME, DOING SOME WORK ON OUR FRONT LAWN, WHEN I LOOKED OVER AND SAW HER HEADING OUR WAY WITH A NEIGHBORLY GIFT OF PEACHY GOLD.

SHE INTRODUCED HERSELF TO ME, AND I TO HER. I THEN GRABBED HER HAND AND THANKED HER FOR HER KIND GESTURE.

WE STOOD AND TALKED FOR AWHILE ABOUT THE FARMER'S CO-OP AND HOW BLAZING HOT IT HAS BEEN HERE, ON OUR NECK OF THE PLANET.

SHE THEN TOLD ME THAT SHE WOULD LET ME "GET BACK TO WORK", SINCE NIGHTFALL WAS APPROACHING.

AS SHE WALKED AWAY AND BACK TO HER HOME......I FELT PROUD AND HAPPY THAT SOMEONE WOULD TAKE THE TIME AND CONSIDERATION TO INVITE US, SO KINDLY, TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD.

AS I CONTINUED FINISHING UP MY YARDWORK......I GAZED UP AT THE CRESENT MOON, SET DEEP IN THE DARKNESS OF THE SKY ABOVE ME, AND THOUGHT TO MYSELF, "HOW LUCKY I AM TO BE ALIVE AND TO BE ABLE TO LIVE ON THIS PLANET."

"BEING ALIVE AND HAVING REALIZATION OF THIS IS SO COOL, EVEN BEING ABLE TO DO SOMETHING AS MENIAL AS THIS YARDWORK."

I FELT AND FEEL TRULY BLESSED.

OH YES.....TODAY WAS A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD.

THANKS AGAIN FOR THE PEACHES, BETTY.....BUT MAINLY FOR YOUR FRIENDSHIP.

OH....AND I ALSO WANT TO GIVE THANKS TO MR FRED ROGERS........JUST BECAUSE.

The Eagle Has Landed....STARDATE 7272006

THE EAGLE HAS LANDED

Well.....Tj and I have finally landed our craft safely, and have begun setting up the new Tranquillity Base 2, here on Planet Norwood.

Tj and I have chosen a very tranquil area of the planet, with a multitude of green foliage........and so far, all life forms seem to be non-hostile.

Tj and I believe that Planet Norwood will be a nice place to dwell until further notice.

All is well here.....

Tj and I are so glad to have our feet on the ground now and are enjoying our new life.

The Brats have made the move safely and are enjoying their version of Planet Norwood, as well.

Until we meet again......Greetings and Salutations from Tranquillity Base on Planet Norwood..............Lj
